"Arnold Dreyblatt founded "The Orchstra of The Excited Strings" in New York in 1979 and this new ensemble in West Berlin in 1985. The string instruments all perform in a "just" mictrotonal tuning system derived from the natural overtone series. The Contrabass Bodies has been rescaled and has feltless hammers and no dampers. The instruments are amplified and mixed in performance. The musicians have participated in th development of these pieces during a one-year "workshop" period at Künstlerhaus Bethanien."
