Die vorliegende Graphik illustriert das Titelblatt zu dem von Luigi Cicconi verfassten, 1845 veröffentlichten Buch "Raffaello e le belle arti sotto Leone X. Scene storiche", in welchem der Autor in elf Kapiteln die Arbeit Raffaels während des Pontifikats Leo X. bis zu seinem Tod schildert. Es folgt auf Frontispiz und Titelkupfer mit dem Tod Raffaels bzw. Raffael und der Fornarina (Inv.-Nr. kb-2020-481g-1 und -2). Das hier gezeigte Bildnis Raffaels bezieht sich auf das Selbstbildnis des Künstlers im Fresko "Die Schule von Athen".
