Die Arbeit I SAW I WAS I von Hannah Rath übersetzt den malerischen Fluss ihrer Handschrift in einen Textilsiebdruck. Rath spielt hier mit Anagrammen, Palindromen, der Irritation durch Wortwechsel und Wechseln der Leserichtung und lotet so die verschiedenen Aspekte von Lesbarkeit aus. Sie untersucht, wie geschwungen eine handverfasste Bilderschrift werden darf, um weiterhin als sinnvermittelnde Worte lesbar zu sein und ab wann sie eher als abstrakte Formen, als Muster, wahrgenommen werden. Was bewirken Leerstellen, Auslassungen oder Verknüpfungen, Spiegelungen und Perspektivwechsel für Inhalt und Form? Rath beschäftigt sich mit Fragen der Wahrnehmung von Sprache und Materialität, deren Strukturen und Bewegungen im Raum und steckt Möglichkeiten und Grenzen von Schrift, Sprache und Kommunikation ab.
The work I SAW I WAS I by Hannah Rath translates the painterly flow of her handwriting into a textile screen print. Rath plays with anagrams, palindromes, the irritation caused by word changes and changes in the direction of reading, thus exploring the various aspects of legibility. She examines how curved a handwritten pictorial script may become in order to continue to be legible as words that convey meaning, as well as at what point the elements are perceived more as abstract forms, as patterns. What effect do blanks, omissions or links, reflections and changes of perspective have on content and form? Rath deals with questions about the perception of language and materiality, their structures and movements in space, and maps out the possibilities and limits of writing, language and communication.
