In Anna Graths Elomen (2019) werden Scharnierband und ein Kabelkanal in ornamentale Bögen gelegt und an der Wand aufgehängt. Während die Ausgangsmaterialien an alltägliche Handlungen und Handwerk erinnern, nähert sich die Wandarbeit formal der Zeichnung an. Frontal betrachtet sind die Bänder als Linien zu erkennen, die kunstvolle Ellipsen bilden und auf der Wand ein abstraktes Bild entstehen lassen. Im Fokus der bildhauerischen Arbeit von Anna Grath stehen sowohl die formalen als auch die funktionalen und narrativen Qualitäten gängiger Gegenstände und Materialien. Dabei gewinnen sowohl Scharnierband als auch Kabelkanal neue Dimensionen und erscheinen entgegen ihrer sonstigen Merkmale als weiche, formbare Materialien. Grath erreicht so eine Neubeurteilung der von ihr verwendeten Materialien und hinterfragt unsere verfestigte Sicht auf die Dinge.
In Anna Grath's Elomen (2019), hinging tape and a cable duct are set into ornamental arches and hung on the wall. While the source materials recall everyday actions and crafts, the wall work formally approaches drawing. Viewed frontally, the ribbons of tape can be seen as lines that form elaborate ellipses, creating an abstract image on the wall. Grath's sculptural work focuses on the formal as well as the functional and narrative qualities of common objects and materials. Through Grath’s process, both the tape and the cable duct gain new dimensions and appear to be soft, malleable materials. Grath thus achieves a reassessment of the materials she uses and questions our rigid view of things.
