Kopf eines alten, nach links aufblickenden Mannes (nach Guido Reni), 17. Jahrhundert

This drawing pictures the same head as the previous sheet (inv. no. 38484, cat. no. 86), and the artist employed the same technique. The horizontal crease at the level of the chin, which appears on both drawings, suggests either that they came from the same sheet of paper or were stored together and folded in the same way. However, the somewhat coarser hatching in this sheet more closely resembles the style of Francisco de Herrera the Elder. Still, the pen strokes in both Hamburg sheets are too varied to serve as the basis for a specific attribution.
